The "Gentle Way" is a Japanese martial art where the goal is to throw the opponent onto their back (Ippon = immediate win) or subdue them with a 20-second pin, choke, or armbar. Matches are 4 minutes, then "golden score" (sudden-death overtime), and the "foot sweep" (de-ashi-barai) and "hip throw" (o-goshi) are classic techniques, all controlled by a strict etiquette of bows and the referee's shout of "Sono-mama!" (freeze).
